18 June 2011 Championship Weekend Games

Baseball Majors Division

The Zionsville Majors tournament concluded with a great game on Saturday night as the Schulte Insurance Reds defeated the Hartford Group Cardinals in a hard-fought 3-0 victory. Eli Copner pitched a complete game for the Cardinals, holding the Reds to 3 runs on 7 hits. He was matched by RJ Brow who pitched into the 6th inning, giving up only 2 hits to Sam Huff, with the game closed out by Ripken Pacovsky. The Reds defense backed up the solid pitching with an error free performance in the field, including a diving catch in the 5th by John Alex Rusyniak in center field on a line drive by Andrew Redman to save 2 runs. Carter Dunshee, Quinn Kennedy, and Rusyniak all scored for the Reds after reaching base via hits. The Cardinals did not go quietly after their near miss in the 5th, loading the bases with 2 out in the bottom of the 6th inning. However, Morgen Roberts snagged a ground ball down the 3rd base line and stepped on the base for the force out to end the game.

The Reds, who finished the double elimination tournament 4-0, reached the title game by defeating the Kern Brother's Shoes Red Sox 9-8 in 7 innings, the Subway Athletics 14-6, and the JMI Cubs 7-6 in 8 innings in an incredible winner's bracket final on Wednesday night. During the tournament, Nathan O' Brien had 5 hits and 6 walks in 14 at-bats, Greyson Roberts slugged 2 home runs including a game-tying 2-run shot in the bottom of the 6th against the Cubs, and Mike Prier made some key defensive plays in left field. The winning Reds were: RJ Brow, Joe Busse, Carter Dunshee, Quinn Kennedy, Tommy McMichen, Nathan O'Brien, Ripken Pacovsky, Mike Prier, Greyson Roberts, Morgen Roberts, and John Alex Rusyniak.

After posting the best record during the regular season and opening with a short-handed 4-2 win over the Sports Clips White Sox, the Cardinals were forced into the long road through the loser's bracket by a 9-8 loss to the Cubs. To advance to the league final, the Cardinals then defeated the Bone Dry Roofing Yankees 12-2, the White Sox 17-7, and avenged their earlier loss to the Cubs with a 15-5 victory in the loser bracket final. The Cardinals team included: Zach Babb, Eli Copner, Brandon Eiermann, Will Hobick, Sam Huff, Dawson Pfifer, Andrew Redman, Alex Sampson, Will Savery, Shane Shuler, and Connor Wagoner.

Baseball A Division Championship

The Flanner and Buchanan Rays captured the ZLL Single A Championship Saturday with an exciting 13-8 victory over the Duke Energy Indians. The Rays combined tight defense with timely hitting to build an early lead and held off a furious Indians rally in the 6th inning. The game ended with the Rays Luke Nolan making a leaping grab deep in center field to rob the Indians of a possible bases-clearing hit. Luke also circled the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning on an inside the park home run to extend the Rays lead.

The Rays defense was strong all game long as 8 of the 10 players were involved in recording outs. Key hitters for the Rays were Preston Gadd with 4 hits and 2 runs; Luke Nolan with 3 hits and 2 runs; Jack Schrepferman with 2 doubles, a single, and two runs; Andrew Paul with a triple, 3 singles and 2 runs; Caleb Bender with a double, a single, and a run; Aiden Dorsey with 2 singles and a run; Matthew Moore with a single; Nick Morris with a single and a run. Ari Aubuchon and Alyx Johnson contributed to the victory with strong defense. Flanner and Buchanan Single A Rays

Minor Softball Championship

Final score Trans-Corr Racers 11 – The Deck Store Sting 2

Sydney Fisher and Lucy Garrett combined for 15 strike outs and 0 walks giving up 2 hits. Jessie Reid, Lucy Garrett and Heather Darrow each scored twice for the Racers. Sydney Fisher and Lucy Garrett lead the batting with 3 hits. The Sting was lead by Kristie Karch with 2 hits.

4 June 2011 Games

In the last regular season rec game on June 4th, the Claghorn Custom Flooring Giants defeated the Barbara Harris FLP Mets 14-8. For the Giants, Joshua Satterfield hit an inside-the-park homerun while Alex Conrad, Ethan Maluccio and Trey Jamerson had 2 hits each. Gavin Provan, Seth Douglas and Tate Eugenio pitched well in relief. For the Mets, Hunter Maxwell, Andrew Baker and Jackson Smith had hits. Will Pister scored 3 runs and pitched well on the mound.

On Friday June 3rd, the Claghorn Custom Flooring Giants defeated the Martine Dentistry Braves 20-10. For the Giants, Gavin Provan was the big hitter with 3 hits and a double. He also scored 3 runs. Joshua Satterfield and Trey Jamerson contributed with 2 hits and 3 RBI's each. Alex Conrad also had 2 hits. For the Braves, Sam Williams had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Josh Carney also had a hit. Nathaniel Martine and Evan Price pitched well.

7 May 2011 Games

The Kern Brothers Shoes Red Sox lost 5-3 to the Sport Clips White Sox. The White Sox Max Ungar, Quinn Connor and Alexander Harbin all scored in the first inning. The Red Sox Jared Carter hit a solo home run in the first inning to start a comeback. The Red Sox Robbie Vukovich shut down the White Sox in the 2nd inning. The Red Sox tied the game in 5th, 3-3 but the White Sox Zachary Harbin had a game winning hit and the White Sox Sam Gobeyn shut down the Red Sox in the 6th.

The Ron Schulte State Farm Reds earned a come-from-behind victory, 9-4, in 8 innings despite a strong pitching performance by Zach Garisek for the Subway A's. The Reds had several outstanding efforts from RJ Brow (4-4, 2 runs), Nathan O'Brien (2-4, 2 runs) and Carter Dunshee (2-3, 1 run). Brow, Dunshee and Quinn Kennedy pitched very well limiting the A's to only 4 runs on 8 hits. O'Brien also made an outstanding play from right field throwing out a runner at the plate and saving a run for the Reds. The A's were led by Zach Garisek's 4 1/3 innings pitched holding the Reds to 1 run on 2 hits. Jack Diplotti led the A's at the plate (2-3, 1 run). Theron Walsh made several nice defensive plays for the A's at different times playing left field and third base.

30 April 2011 Games

The Giants and Braves had an exciting opening day game in 9U competition with the Giants pulling out an exciting 12-10 win. The Braves scored early and jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Led by the pitching of Josh Carney and Sam Williams, the Braves held onto the lead until the Giants scored 12 runs in the top of the last inning. The Braves scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and had the tying runs on base when Sam Kidwell was able to get the final three outs to preserve the win for the Giants. Joshua Satterfield and Ethan Hobbs-Maluccio each had a good day at the plate while Gavin Provan pitched well for the Giants. Joshua Carney was the pitching star for the Braves.

The AAA Mitchell Appraisals Twins jumped to a quick lead putting 13 runs on the board in the first two innings. Grady Ellis went 2-2 with two RBI's and Jack Farley went 2-2 with 3 RBI's to keep the Twins in front of the Zionsville Eye Care Marlins. Alex Kenyon led the Marlins at the plate going 2-3 with 4 RBI's. Alex Paul came in to pitch for the Marlins at the end of the 2nd inning and held the Twins to 4 runs in 3 innings pitched. Carson Gadd came in and closed the game for the Twins with two scoreless innings pitching. Twins won 17-Marlins 13.

The Schulte Insurance Reds rode 14 hits, including home runs by Tommy McMichen and Greyson Roberts, to a 12-3 victory over the JMI Cubs on Thursday night. Quinn Kennedy, Mike Prier, Nathan O'Brien, and RJ Brow combined on the mound to limit the Cubs with five shut-out innings. Brow and Roberts each had 3 hits in the game, and Carter Dunshee and Roberts each had 3 RBI's for the Reds who improved to 2 -1 on the season. Ben Calisto, Ethan Barksdale, and Sam Swinford scored for the Cubs.

The Sport Clips White Sox were led by strong pitching from Quinn Connor, Max Ungar, Drew Baker and Joe Kerr who scattered 9 hits over five innings. Sam Gobeyn threw out two runners at 2nd while catching. The Sox had a strong overall defensive effort not committing any errors. Max Ungar, Quinn Connor and Sam Gobeyn led the Sox with one hit each. The Subway Athletics were led by a strong pitching effort from Zach Garisek, Jordan Pugh, Josh Wagner and Ben Balogh. The four pitchers held the Sox to three hits total. A great defensive effort was performed by Peter Morris making two key plays at 1st base. Josh Wagner went 3-3 with 1 run scored. Jordan Pugh had the first RBI for the A's while Anthony Vega later hit a triple. Theron Walsh earned an important RBI with a sacrifice fly scoring Jack Diplotti in the 5th inning. The A's won 3-0.

The Schulte Insurance Reds eked out a hard fought 5-2 victory over the Sport Clips White Sox on a 3-run walk-off home run by Greyson Roberts in the bottom of the 6th inning, scoring Quinn Kennedy and RJ Brow who had singled earlier in the inning. John Alex Rusyniak drove home Nathan O'Brien with the tying run in the bottom of the 5th to offset a 2 run rally in the 4th by the Sox which plated Ryan Carr and Sam Gobeyn. Strong pitching on both sides led to a quick game, with Tommy McMichen, Carter Dunshee, and Roberts hurling for the Reds and Graham Oberweiser and Alexander Harbin throwing for the White Sox.

16 April 2011 Games

The Bone Dry Roofing Yankees launched the 2011 Majors Little League season with a 10 – 2 victory over the Shulte Insurance Reds. The Yankees broke open a close game with 2 runs in the 4th and 6 more in the 5th to pull away behind a strong pitching performance from Jacob Pressler, Luke Kidwell, and Kyle Callahan. Michael DeBrota, who collected the only hit of the game for the Yankees, and Cash scored 2 runs each for the victors. The Reds collected hits from RJ Brow, Nathan O'Brien, and Greyson Roberts who also collected the season first home run in the 4th inning.

The Subway Athletics and the Schulte Insurance Reds locked up in a chilly opening day game on Saturday in what was the 2nd game of an opening day double-header for the Reds. The Athletics jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st on a two-run blast by Zack Garisek, scoring Jordan Pugh ahead of him who had reached on the first of his two hits for the day. RJ Brow (4 K's), Ripken Pacovsky, and Greyson Roberts shut down the A's for the rest of the game as the Reds came back for a 14 – 2 win. Leading the comeback for the Reds were Quinn Kennedy with his first home run of the season, Brow and Roberts with 2 RBI's apiece, and John Alex Rusyniak (3 runs) and Morgen Roberts (2 runs). Nathan O'Brien also had a hit and scored a run for the Reds.

The Sport Clips White Sox and Kern Brothers Shoes Red Sox game resulted in an 11-9 victory for the White Sox. Max Ungar (White Sox) hit a double scoring two. Graham Oberweiser pitched the White Sox to a 6-0 start before the Red Sox climbed back in the game. Another White Sox standout pitching was Quinn Connor. Cole Elkins went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Jared Carter went 2-3 and scored.
