First Pitch! by ZLL President, Bill Stanczykiewicz

13 April 2010

ZLL Parents:

So put me in, coach. I'm ready to play! As Harry Caray used to say, the sun is out....the skies are clear....and there WILL be baseball (and softball)!

Few moments throughout the course of a year bring as much excitement and anticipation as Opening Day for Little League baseball and softball. As we make final preparations, here are a few items to please note:

  1. Yes, by all means, you definitely should attend the Opening Day ceremony on Saturday, April 17, at 8:30a, on Diamond #2 in Lion's Park. Over 800 t-ball players and little leaguers in their bright uniforms will be on the field at the same time. This is a spectacle right out of Norman Rockwell. Bring the camera. Call the grandparents. You won't want to miss it.
  2. And we need volunteers....even for just one hour....to help hand out programs and sell 50-50 tickets. Please consider helping us on this special day.   Please go to  www.mysignup.com and once there look to the bottom left where it asks "Searching for a Signup?"  Enter laurapinegar@netscape.net and it will take you to the schedule link zll. There you choose your hour and provide an email address and phone number for us to follow up with the volunteer with more information.
  3. On Opening Day, and for the rest of the season, please do NOT park in the Old National Bank parking lot OR directly in front of any of the other businesses on Elm Street. If all of the parking spaces on the east side (the park side) of Elm are full, please park in the main parking lot off of 334. Let's be a good neighbor to our local businesses...many of whom sponsor Little League teams!
  4. This year you'll have a chance to win a home theater system or a new Chevy Malibu, thanks to Bill Estes Chevrolet. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the season, including on Opening Day. More details will be available at the park on Saturday.
  5. Please remember that Lion's Park is a private park maintained solely by the volunteers of the Lion's Club and of Zionsville Little League. Let's work together to maintain the beauty of this civic treasure by picking up trash and maintaining the overall charm of the park.

Now, get your pencil and scorecard ready. The season is about to begin!
