Zionsville All-Stars 11-Year Old Boys Win District Championship!
Plate umpire shouts of "strike three" were still hanging in the air as the players rushed the mound in jubilant excitement. The coaches attempted to peel the players from the pile one-by-one, and dust them off to get ready for the Champion’s presentation. Zionsville Little League 11-year old boys All-Star team continued its pitching domination Thursday night to become the Indiana District 8 Champions! The team won 5-0 and avenged an earlier loss to an undefeated Fall Creek team. "There is no quit in this team!" stated manager Mike Richey. "There were times during the tournament where lesser teams would have folded. Not these boys!" he said.
The stage was set, both on offense and defense, early in the game. Zionsville pitcher, Zach D., walked the first batter. He induced the next two batters to hit ground balls, the second of which was scooped up by third baseman, Shane S., who fired to second, initiating an inning ending double play! In the bottom of the first, Alex W. singled, moved to second and scored on Sam F.’s two-strike, RBI single over second base and into center field. This run turned out to be all that Zionsville needed as over-powering pitching by Zach D. and Alex W., held Fall Creek scoreless on a combined three-hit, seven-strikeout gem. Insurance runs were added in the third and fourth innings courtesy of timely hitting by Ryan M., Alex W., Mic R., and Sam F.
The 11-year old All-Star team consists of #00 Stephen S., #1 Garrett P., #2 Devin V., #3 Mic R., #7 Shane S., #9 Drew S., #15 Sam F., #21 Ryan M., #22 Kyle R., #23 Alex W., #25 Nick C., #29 Zach D., #32 Eric R., Manager: Mike Richey, and Coaches: Tom Bedinger and Jim Fuller. The team moves on to Sectional play in Monticello.
