- Boone County Senior Health and Wellness Expo from from 9am-1pm at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds, Lebanon. The event is FREE for all attendees! Boone County seniors, their caregivers and family members are encouraged to attend. More than 50 vendors will be in attendance. Health screenings, flu shots, medicine cabinet cleanup, demonstrations, door prizes, food and more will be offered. - Thorntown Christian Church Homecoming in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of pastor Glen Jewell's leadership of the church. The celebration will start with Gene's famous cinnamon rolls before Sunday School, and a soup bean, cornbread, fried potatoes and barbeque lunch and many activities in the afternoon (a cake walk, best pie contest, moonwalk for the kids, a time to reminisce and fellowhip with all of the friends and much more). - Flu Shot Clinic from 3 to 6 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). The Visiting Nurse Service will be on-hand to distribute seasonal flu and pneumonia shots to residents of all ages on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations will not be accepted. Costs are as follows: Flu shot -- $25; Pneumonia shot -- $45. Individuals presenting their Medicare-Part B card will receive shots at no charge. The H1N1 flu vaccine will not be available during this event. Residents are encouraged to contact the Boone County Health Department for up-to-date information about the new H1N1 vaccine. Participants may share a book with a furry, four-legged friend from TheraPets of Indiana on the first Tuesday of each month. If so join us on the Top Floor Meeting Room at 6 pm for The Soloist at the Lebanon Public Library Friday, October 9th. You must be at least 18 or have a parent/guardian with you to attend. - Perry-Worth PTO Chili Supper & Basket Raffle from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Perry-Worth Elementary (3900 E 300 South, Lebanon, IN 46052). Chili Supper $4 [includes chili, crackers, chips, beverage and dessert]. Hot dogs available as alternate entree choice. Proceeds are used by the PTO to support school programs, like DARE, SpellBowl, etc., and to purchase equipment and supplies for the school. Basket Raffle: themed baskets, prepared by the elementary classes, filled with fun items for family activities will be raffled. You do not have to be present to win. Raffle tickets $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. Proceeds from the baskets go right back into the classrooms. "Magic by James" will be providing entertainment.

ZEF supporters gather to dine, play games and participate in a silent auction all while supporting the teachers and students in our schools. - They Fought For Us, We Walk For Them Walk-for-Them celebration at 9 am sponsored by the Boone County Clerk's Office and the American Legion Riders Post 113. There are many soldiers that have been to Iraq, fought for this country and given their lives. One solider is from Boone County, and his name is Joey Strong. There is an ongoing effort to add a third and fourth stone to the KIA Monument that is on the Courthouse lawn. Joey's name will be added to the monument along with any other soldiers that may give their lives defending our freedom in the future. The Clerk's Office is planning a Walk-for-Them celebration to raise the remaining funds needed. We invite the community to join us by either walking with us or by donating to this worthy cause. We will accept pledges, tax deductible donations, and there will also be a bake sale during the walk. - Animal Adventure Series: Bats from 1 - 2 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Naturalists from the Zion Nature Center will join librarians as they share their knowledge about local animals through read-aloud stories, rhymes, activities and a real animal meet-and-greet. Children 3 - 6, accompanied by a parent, will meet at the library for storytime fun, then walk to the Nature Center to meet and learn about the real animals that live there. - Pre-Carved Pumpkin Contest for children K through 5th grade from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in front of the Lebanon Public Library (104 E. Washington St. Lebanon, IN 46052). Pumpkins will be judged and prizes awarded for scariest, most beautiful, original and funniest. Sponsored by the Boone County Historical Society.
